At a recent ASAC Board meeting, well known aviation stalwart Peter Lloyd AO OBE was awarded the inaugural ASAC Air Sports Gold Medal.
Mike Close, the President of ASAC, said that the award is presented to a person who has made a major contribution to aviation generally or to the Aviation Industry in Australia in particular.
This may be through a single outstanding achievement or a major contribution over many years in either flying, technical innovation, administration, or leadership.
ASAC, of which Peter Lloyd is also the Honorary Governor, is a not-for-profit organisation representing the Gliding Federation of Australia, the Hang Gliding Federation of Australia, the Australian Ballooning Federation, the Australian Parachute Federation, the Model Aeronautics Association of Australia and the Aerobatic Club of Australia.
ASAC provides a voice to government and industry on matters affecting sport aviation - and is the designated Australian representative to the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI).
Peter Lloyd’s, list of achievements include:
AO Officer of the Order of Australia - for services to aviation and international affairs.
OBE Order of the British Empire - for services to aviation.
MiD Mentioned In Dispatches – for bravery in action during WWII.
FAIM Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management
FCIT Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport
FID Fellow of the Institute of Directors
FREcS Fellow of the Royal Economic Society
He is also a powered aircraft pilot with 11,000 command hours, a gas balloon pilot and parachutist, as well as having flying experience in gliders and microlight aircraft
He was the founding President Australian Aerobatic Club, he is a past president Royal Aero Club and Royal Federation of Aero Clubs of Australia, and past chairman, Guild of Air Pilots and Navigators – Australian Region (Liveryman with Freedom of the City of London).
Peter's association with the FAI has included President of Honour 1989, President 1986 - 1988, Vice-President 1982 - 1986, Treasurer 1976 – 1982 and Australian Delegate to FAI from 1971.
And most importantly, Peter Lloyd is the President of Safeskies, Australia's own international air safety conference which is held in Canberra every second year.

Paul Tissandier Diploma
Yuri Gagarin Decoration (Russia), for distinguished services to the cause of world peace through air sport
Order of Svazam (1st Class) Czechoslovakia, for distinguished services to the cause of world peace through air sport.
Peter said that he was absolutely delighted and honoured to receive the award. He remains ever passionate about aviation in Australia and particularly aviation safety with his involvement as President of Safekies.
