Australian aircraft manufacturer GippsAero Pty Ltd is expanding its Airvan aircraft family with the upcoming introduction of the GA10 turbo prop utility aircraft into the market.
The GA10 project is proceeding well and is expected to build on the success of the GA8 Airvan.
Mahindra Aerospace is in track with its investment in GippsAero and work on new turbo prop Airvan is proceeding swiftly.
The GA10 Turbo-prop is a whole new FAR 23 certified aircraft type, powered by a Rolls Royce 250 B17F2 engine.
The project is currently in the prototype design phase, and it is expected that first metal parts can be cut at end of March. Avionics, air intake filter, STOL kit and auto pilot options will be developed concurrently.
“Using the latest design and analysis tools, we’re able to work in a concurrent way to develop components and produce an efficient integrated design” said Engineering Manager Gerhard Jordaan.
The project is proceeding to plan, and based on current projections, the first prototype of the GA10 is scheduled to fly in October 2011, with certification activity to continue throughout 2012 for a target launch date in 2013.
The GA10 will be a 10-seat aircraft based on the popular GA8 Airvan which has been extremely successful both in Australia and overseas.
The aircraft has been engineered to emulate the GA8 design, low cost platform, with added carrying and capacity and added potential for aircraft operators.
“Our goal is to retain the successful GA8 design and to use current production parts to provide a strong support solution across the globe” added Mr Jordaan.
The GA10 is expected to be the most economical people mover in its class, based on seat/NM/Litre. Operating costs and maintenance requirements are also expected to be very low due to the implementation of simple, robust systems with easy access.
The STOL aircraft offers a range of optional extras to target individual operators specific needs including EFIS choice and propeller brake system to decrease cycle times. The aircraft has fast configuration changes between 10 seats or cargo, lending more flexibility to operators.
GippsAero expects the GA10 public debut at the 2013 Australian International Airshow to gain lots of interest.
