A handheld cloud computing application that has the potential to prevent accidents was launched this month.
Major players from the safety industry gathered at the Aviation Logistics and Resources Sector 2011 summit to launch Onesafe, a high-tech risk management and compliance system that offers real-time, live safety information.
The system, which gives instant updates on aviation risks via portable tablets and phone devices, is a world first in that it has been developed exclusively upon cloud technology.
The system had previously only been available to airlines but is now available to all air operators and the resource and mining sector, and is expected to make commercial air travel safer, more efficient, and therefore less expensive for passengers.
Onesafe Integrated Risk Management Director and former Qantas Group General Manager of Safety, Compliance and Operational Risk, Ron Bartsch, said the invention revolutionises the way the aviation industry meets safety and regulatory obligations.
“The difference here between Onesafe and other systems is that Onesafe is the first organisation to develop a system exclusively around cloud technology,” Mr Bartsch said.
“That means that any safety threats or changes in regulations are instantly entered remotely.
“It’s amazing to think that the entire concept of aviation safety can be placed literally in the palm of a hand.”
The launch comes with the approach of the 12-month anniversary of the crash of a charter flight that killed the Sundance Resources board in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Mr Bartsch said if such a system had been available 12 months ago the accident may have been averted.
“With more information, a truly informed assessment of airworthiness can be made,” he said.
“The Onesafe system also eliminates the room for error associated with an unreliable paper system.
“The program can be tailored to suit a major commercial airline all the way down to a regional carrier, and companies only pay for what they use.
“It creates one system, one culture and one method for managing safety across the entire organisation.”
