BCS a finalist in NZ export awards

Baggage technology company BCS Group has been named as a finalist in the prestigious New Zealand International Business Awards.

The awards recognise companies that have transformed New Zealand’s economy with exceptional export success, and the winners will be announced March 21.

During the past 18 years, BCS has become the biggest player in airport baggage handling systems in Australia.

If you’ve flown into Australia in the past year, for instance, there’s a four-to-one chance your bags were navigated through an Australian airport and delivered to your side by a BCS baggage system.

BCS sells logistics hardware, automation controls and elegant software solutions, mainly in the aviation sector.

Chief Executive Patrick Teo said the company is the supplier of choice to airports, airlines, freight and industrial customers in Australasia and, increasingly, around the world.

BCS Airport Systems provides design, fabrication, installation and commissioning of complex baggage handling and security screening systems.

The company develops the entire system, from machinery to software, and follows up with a “whole of life” infrastructure support plan.

Its global growth was a factor in its reaching the Awards finals.

BCS continues to expand its Asian presence and resources, establishing a regional branch in Kuala Lumpur in the MSC corridor reserved for hi tech companies.

New offices are opening in Mexico and Brazil, adding to the global network bringing BCS initiatives and supplied systems to more than 45 countries around the world.

Over the last year the company has secured projects in Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam and the Philippines as Asian economies struggle to keep up with airport and airline infrastructure demands with ever growing, and more mobile, middle classes.

The company aims to grow and diversify its contracting business geographically, while transforming the business to an innovation-led solutions and services company, Mr Teo said.
