Australian Aerospace opens helicopter support facility

Australian Aerospace has opened a large warehouse complex designed to support new, fast, troop-carrying helicopters being delivered to the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

At the official opening last Friday, Dr Jens Goennemann, CEO, said: “The opening of this spare parts warehousing centre marks another important milestone for rotary-wing assembly in Australia. The MRH90 project, through a comprehensive Australian Industry Capability program, is generating 400 skilled new jobs in Australia, including the personnel who will manage this brand new centre.”

The warehouse, developed near Holsworthy Barracks in western Sydney, will become the central reception and distribution point from where spares and other support equipment for the MRH90 Multi-Role Helicopters will be shipped interstate and overseas. Australian Aerospace is assembling some 42 of a total of 46 MRH90s at its Brisbane Airport manufacturing plant. The helicopters will be delivered until the end of 2014, progressively replacing Australian Navy Sea King and Army Black Hawk helicopters.
